Deped-Bohol recognized best nationwide for school-building
The Department of Education this week distinguished the province of Bohol yet again with another national award that proves that good governance and performance are recognized and rewarded.
Governor Edgar Chatto yesterday congratulated Division Superintendent Lorna Rances and commended the DepEd Division of Bohol for having been recognized as the best implementer nationwide, at the division level, of the DepEd’s schoolbuilding program.
The DepEd’s 2011 Excellence Award acknowledges the DepEd-Bohol Division for its accomplishments, primarily under the Bayanihan Program for Long-Term Partnership in Education.
Through the public-private partnership, the province’s schoolbuilding program is greatly fast-tracked, with a two-classroom building finished in a matter of weeks, not months, through manpower provided by army soldiers and community volunteers.
The long-term public-private partnership is an undertaking of the provincial government of Bohol, the DepEd Division of Bohol, the Armed Forces of the Philippines-National Development Support Command (AFP-NADESCOM), and the private sector. Under the partnership, a two-classroom schoolbuilding can be constructed, complete with comfort rooms and other standard facilities, at almost half the cost of a regular two-classroom building.
In Bohol, the schoolbuilding program is further strengthened by the counterparting program of the provincial government and the Department of Education, in accordance with the memorandum of agreement where the Provincial School Board’s appropriation of P12,780,000 for the construction of classrooms this year was matched for the same amount by the DepEd.
Through the memorandum, a total of P25,560,000 was made available for 2011 alone for the Bayanihad long-term partnership for education, with the AFP-NADESCOM.
