Chatto happy with talks brewing between Bohol and Saitama

Gov. Edgar M. Chatto is in high spirits these days for initial talks on a probable sisterhood agreement with Saitama, Japan could materialize early next year.

A husband-and-wife team met with Gov. Chatto and Provincial Administrator (PA) Alfonso Damalerio II Wednesday to serve as emissaries of the Japanese Government for possible business ventures and partnerships.

Yoshiji Matsuda, President of the OM Mfg. Co., Ltd. From Saitama, Japan, and his wife Dori, came over to Bohol to specifically talk about the 17-man delegation from Japan which will visit Bohol early next month to talk about the construction of an irrigation dam, hydropower projects and the feasibility of providing water for certain areas in Cebu.

Dori Matsuda gave out the information that the delegation will include the Governor of Saitama Prefecture and some staff from the Ministry of Labor of Japan.

The party would also call on Pres. Benigno Simeon Aquino III, the Japanese Embassy and the JICA offices in Manila.

Once in Bohol, the delegation would meet with Gov. Chatto, Vice-Governor Concepcion Lim, PA Damalerio and other Provincial Government Officials.

It is said that the Matsuda couple and the Japanese Government are acting as one on the proposed projects and would be conducting formal ocular inspections on the proposed sites.

Right after their Bohol visit, the Japanese delegation would proceed to Cebu to meet with Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) top brass to discuss the latter’s proposal for possible water interconnections.

Chatto however, has told the Matsuda couple early on that the Chatto-Lim Administration would only agree to provide Cebu with water “if and when Bohol has more than enough for the Boholanos.”
