PRESS RELEASE : 444th year of the Treaty that started Friendship

The National Historical Institute ( NHI ) declared Datu Sikatuna /Gen. Legazpi Blood Compact in the year 1565 at Hinawanan Bay (presently day barangay Villalimpia, Loay, Bohol ) will be celebrating the 444th years of such a historical event.

Few years back , Loaynons had been clamoring for the correct site of the historic 1st International treaty of Friendship in its rightful place & exact date ( March 25, 1565 ) of which noted & famed Boholano historian Jess Tirol substantiated with historical facts, thus he was commissioned by the Municipality of Loay together with historian Mr. Romanillos and then Loay Mayor Leonides Tiongco who was the driving force in locating the “the well between 2 rivers , where the soldiers of Gen Legazpi fetched water”.

The NHI panel concluded that “ the Bohol blood compact between Boholano warrior Datu Sikatuna & Spanish Commander Gen. Miguel Lopez de Legazpi took place onboard the flagship San Pedro which was anchored off the waters of Laoy , Bohol on March 25, 1565.”

In July 21 , 2005 thru National Historical Institute (NHI) through Res. No. 04 , series of 2005 , officially declared the exact location & date of the Bohol Blood Compact – it was the crowning glory & achievement of then Mayor Leonides Tiongco & his group for their untiring effort & sense of historical concern.

NHI Chairman Ambeth Ocampo installed the NHI Marker in March 25, 2006 , with a fitting celebration & colorful re-enactment of the ritual of a blood compact between 2 men of different races at the shores of Hinawanan bay – the finest & shining moment of Mayor Leonides Tiongco. In a related development, the NHI is now in the midst of assessing the Pres. Carlos P. Garcia house in Tagbilaran City to become and be declared as a Heritage Place . The 2007 celebration/reenactment had : The Ceremonial Tree Planting of a Philippine & Spanish trees , witnessed by more than a 100 Children of Loay & watered by then National Resources & Devt. Corp.( NRDC - corporate arm of the DENR ) President using the water in the “Well beween 2 rivers.”

Gave the birth of the “panag-Hiagala ay sa Loay” theme song won by Mr. Onie Oclarit with a P10,000.oo prize and the 1565 Treaty Logo with a pot prize of P 5,000.oo which was awarded by Mr. Johnny Enerio, Chairman of the Event Organizing group ( Loay SP Res.No. 72-2006 & MOA-915-2006 thru Mayor Leonides Tiongco & Mr. Jenar L. Valloso, Sanguniang Secretary , duly attested by then Vice Mayor Tiburcio P. Bullecer, Jr – where they entrusted for a 5 year Event Conceptualization & Management of the Bohol Blood Compact (from 2007- 2011).

The 2008 celebration of the “Treaty that started Friendship” motto conceptualize by the Event Management & Organizing group paved the way for the Dept. of Tourism ( DOT ) thru Sec. Ace Durano to become a partner and endorsed the “ panag Higala-ay” as one of the newest celebration & latest Tourism site in Bohol together with : the private sectors joining & coming out with a record 150 tables connected together with no less than “5,000 people eating together at the same time with” thru the sponsorship of Coca Cola – it was a “Guiness World record” potential event led by Kag. Hermes Entero, the Tourism Chairman of Loay who now officially holds the record ( representing the Municipality in the absence of Mayor Imboy who had other previous commitment at that time ).

It was a grand celebration culminated with “fireworks” thru the courtesy of Mr.Eduardo “ Boy “ Enerio & the Enerio/Espiritu family of Loay and the “ banda sa Hinawanan Bay” hosted by San Miguel Beer, an annual commitment by San Miguel Corporation for all Boholanos to savor – “Sarap Mag BloodCompact”, this year 2009 it will be bigger.

The Bohol Blood Compact – had established the historical importance of Bohol ; showcased the culture and arts heritage and innovations of Boholanos ; secured a stronger muli-sectoral community participation with the aim in view of enhacing the Tourism potential & emphasizing the Historical importance and significance of the such event; stimulate economic movements & investor interest. Loay is noted as an Investor Friendly town, where now it has its Loay Floating Restaurant, the Clarin Heritage House & the Holy Trinity Church ground, an NCCA grant recipient in the year 2006, among others.

Come to Loay on March 25 , 2009 as a prelude to the grand celebration of its 445^th year on March 25, 2010 – it will be a big & grand affair. ( Golden World Services PR / JGE ).
